The city is part of the Provo–Orem Metropolitan Statistical Area. Eagle Mountain is located at the northwest corner of the Salt Lake Valley, approximately 30 miles (48 km) from Salt Lake City and 20 miles (32 km) from Provo. The city is nestled at the base of the Wasatch Mountains and is adjacent to the city of Saratoga Springs. The city was incorporated in December 1996. Prior to incorporation, the area was known as Lake Mountain, a name still used for a nearby recreation area.
