Phillipsburg was incorporated as a town by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 8, 1861, from portions of Phillipsburg Borough, Lopatcong Township and Pohatcong Township. The town is located on the border of Warren County and Northampton County in the easternmost part of the Lehigh Valley.
