Old Bridge is a township in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the township had a total population of 65,375, reflecting an increase of 4,919 (+8.1%) from the 60,456 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 5,840 (+10.7%) from the 54,616 counted in the 1990 Census. Old Bridge was originally incorporated as Madison Township on March 2, 1869, from portions of South Amboy Township. Portions of the township were taken on April 19, 1873, to form Monroe Township. On February 28, 1877, the name of the township was changed to Old Bridge Township, based on the name of a covered bridge that was located in the township. The township is notable for being the site of the Battle of Monmouth during the American Revolutionary War.
