Jonesboro is a city in Clayton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 4,724 at the 2010 census. The city is the county seat of Clayton County. Jonesboro is located in the southern part of Clayton County, about 20 miles (32 km) south of downtown Atlanta. Interstate 75 runs through the eastern part of the city, with access from Exits 233, 235, and 237. U.S. Route 23 passes through the city as Main Street, leading north to Forest Park and south to McDonough. Georgia State Route 54 leads east from Jonesboro toward Morrow and west toward Lovejoy. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Jonesboro has a total area of 4.3 square miles (11.2 km2), of which 4.2 square miles (11.0 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2), or 1.44%, is water.
